Description
José lives in Masaya, Nicaragua which is located southeast of Nicaragua’s capital Managua. It is an area with high levels of poverty, school abandonment and teenage pregnancies, which are often caused by sexual abuse. The poverty is characterized by a lack of fixed work, organized crime linked to drug trafficking, alcoholism, family violence, chronic malnutrition, exploitation of girls and child labor. The child sponsorship program provides children with a safe place, nutritional and medical support and the promotion of school attendance through school scholarships, school supplies and afterschool activities. In addition, we promote training activities and the development of micro-economic activities for the poorest families.
