Leyddy lives in Mayoreo, Nicaragua which is a human settlement surrounding a market at the entrance of the capital Managua. The conditions of poverty are characterized by a lack of permanent employment, school abandonment, alcoholism, family violence, exploitation of women and child labor. The social condition of the area is marked by weak family structures and non-stable couples that have children at very young ages. The child sponsorship program offers nutritional and medical support to children and young mothers as well as promoting school attendance through school scholarships, school supplies, and afterschool activities. In addition, the project has developed a technical training center in the market, which offers technical, industrial and commercial academic courses for students.
