Description
Kimberly lives in Monterrey Peru, which is located on the eastern outskirts of Lima. These children come from families that suffer a strong condition of abandonment, social and economic marginality. The majority of the families live in shacks constructed of palm leaves and scraps of metal, wood or plastic. Most families are without hygienic services nor running water. Children commonly suffer from malnutrition, intestinal parasites and anemia. The incidence of family violence that, due to the existing situation of exclusion, is extremely high in the area. Thanks to the child sponsorship program, children are provided with a safe place, school scholarships, school materials, after-school activities and recovery tutoring courses. Every child receives periodic medical visits and participates in recreational and creative activities.
